There's no need to involve the host. The current password is available in the edit player form.

Yes. There is an "edit" link that appears in the player table on the game page, right next to "quit." How else might they update the password stored on PBW2 after they change it in-game?

Oh, right. Perhaps the email sent to replacement players should remind them that they can get the password by editing their player slot?

Some players may also not realize that you can change your password mid-game, so adding that to the email would be nice.
